Nakatsukuni Park is located on the shores of Haizuka Dam Lake.
Unlike crowded tourist spots and parks lined with playground equipment,
Depending on the time of day you visit, it is a quiet place where you will hardly see anyone.
The sound of the willow branches swaying and the tranquility of the waterside are particularly striking, creating a calming atmosphere unique to this place.
Nakatsukuni Park was developed as part of the Haizuka Earthworks Project, which was carried out over a period of approximately nine years starting in 1994.
In this project, local residents and artists including internationally renowned landscape architect Kenjiro Okazaki collaborated to explore how to utilize the land, which is undergoing changes due to the construction of Haizuka Dam and which straddles the three towns of Soryo-cho in Shobara City and Mirasaka-cho and Kisa-cho in Miyoshi City, as a local asset inherited from their ancestors. In the process, the park was conceived not simply as a place of relaxation, but as a place where people can stop in their natural environment and face the scenery.
This park was shaped through repeated dialogue and creativity against the backdrop of the local history surrounding the construction of the dam, and continues to quietly pass the time to this day.
